Description
Al Waha Cranes proudly announces the successful design, installation, and commissioning of two heavy-duty overhead crane systems—one with 30-ton and another with 20-ton capacity—for one of the largest upcoming industrial players within the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD).
This prestigious project reflects our strategic role in supporting the UAE’s industrial diversification agenda, and aligns with Vision 2030’s mission to elevate manufacturing, logistics, and export-driven growth across the region.
Our cranes are now fully operational and supporting high-volume industrial workflows with precision, safety, and unmatched load-handling capability. Engineered using premium-grade Street Crane components (UK), the solution combines European technology with Al Waha’s regional experience and project execution excellence.
Successfully Completed Project
The cranes—custom-built for rugged industrial environments—are now operating inside the facility’s newly launched manufacturing and logistics hub.
Project Quick Facts:
- One 30T and One 20T Overhead Crane System
- Installed at a flagship industrial unit in KEZAD
- Street Crane Hoists & Components (A5 Duty Class)
- Synchronized Dual-Girder Configuration
- Engineered for High-Cycle, High-Stress Usage
- Supports heavy raw material and finished goods handling
- Completed within 8 weeks from design to commissioning
This installation is now part of a large-scale, automated material handling ecosystem serving heavy industry within the UAE’s most advanced economic zone.
The Problem
The client—a rapidly scaling industrial manufacturing company—was preparing to launch operations in a state-of-the-art facility at KEZAD and needed high-capacity, long-life cranes that could:
- Handle 24/7 Production Loads: The facility will operate in continuous shifts, with heavy raw materials and machine parts needing reliable, uninterrupted lifting.
- Ensure Structural Fatigue Resistance: The cranes had to be rated for a minimum A5 duty classification, to ensure long-term performance under repetitive high-load usage.
- Optimize Workflow Across a Large Span: With high-bay clearance and wide shop floor layout, the cranes required long spans with consistent torque, synchronized control, and safety interlocks to prevent load sway.
- Meet Tight Installation Schedules: Given the overall KEZAD master plan timelines, crane commissioning had to align precisely with equipment and personnel mobilization, without delaying operational readiness.
The Solution
Al Waha Cranes provided a dual-capacity solution engineered specifically to meet the KEZAD facility’s high-performance expectations. Both the 30-ton and 20-ton cranes were built around Street Crane’s A5-rated hoists, offering superior mechanical and structural design with fatigue-resistant features.
Key Technical Highlights:
- Street Crane Hoist Mechanisms – High-reliability hoisting with speed variation and overload protection
- Dual-Girder Overhead Configuration – Engineered for longer spans and larger hook approaches
- Anti-Corrosion Finishes – For long-term durability in semi-open industrial environments
- Remote Radio Control + Pendant Backups – For operational flexibility and safety
- Limit Switches, Fall Arrestors, and Anti-Collision Systems – For safe multi-crane zone operations
Both cranes were designed with extra load testing capacity (up to 125%), to allow future scalability and compliance with heavy-duty certification requirements.
The Process
Al Waha’s well-documented execution methodology enabled full project delivery—design to handover—in under 8 weeks. This included engineering, fabrication, FAT testing, installation, load testing, and operator training.
Week 1–2: Site Review & Engineering
- Structural layout drawings and CAD simulations
- Load capacity and travel speed analysis
- Integration plan for KEZAD-specific infrastructure
- Environmental condition assessment for coatings and electricals
Week 3–4: Fabrication & Customization
- Dual-girder crane structure fabrication
- Motor, gearbox, brake, and hoist configuration assembly
- Control panel calibration and wiring
- FAT inspection in presence of client representatives
Week 5–6: Delivery & Installation
- Logistics to KEZAD via flatbed trailers
- Gantry alignment and track welding
- Electrical wiring and panel setup
- Mounting of hoist, end carriages, and buffers
Week 7–8: Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Load testing with third-party certifiers
- Final control programming and interlock validation
